“All students who come into Chad’s art classes come out with a sense of accomplishment and self-worth.”

Chad Stevens, High School Art Teacher, Belpre City Schools

The following story was shared by Belpre City Schools in selecting Chad Stevens as a 2017 Celebrate Teaching Distinguished Educator.

Chad transferred from Belpre Elementary to Belpre High School in the 2015-16 school year. His stated desire was to make a larger impact on students' art awareness and achievement. While at Belpre Elementary, Chad honed his skills for inclusionary practices with students. Every student had a place in his classroom and contributed on a deep level individually. Chad has taken those skills to Belpre High School and all students who come into his art classes come out with a sense of accomplishment and self-worth.

His art colleagues in surrounding school districts are quite envious of the success his students see in his pottery classes. Students quite often produce pieces of such quality that people see them and want to purchase them. Playing on the phenomenon, he and his students have staged successful pottery sales to help fund their endeavors. Some of those same students have had their work displayed at the Parkersburg Art Center and have been recognized in the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition in Columbus.

Chad leads his students by example, always praising and encouraging their successes and accepting praise humbly. His calm demeanor is soothing in the classroom as well as outside the classroom. He is a multi-faceted artist as well. He is quite the accomplished guitarist and vocalist. He is one of those adults every kid should experience.
